Falcons Hand Lady Flames First GSC Loss

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Feeling the effects of a grueling five-set victory over Alabama Huntsville on Friday night the Lee volleyball team suffered its first conference loss in straight sets at Montevallo on Saturday afternoon.

The loss snaps a four-match winning streak and drops the Lady Flames to 6-9 overall and 4-1 in the Gulf South Conference. The win improves the Falcons to a sizzling 14-1 and 5-0 in league play. Montevallo has won 13 straight with the lone loss coming on Aug. 26 to Augusta University.

Bailey Kress led the Lady Flames with nine kills in the losing effort. Hanna Matthews set up the offense with 17 assists while MaKayla Beebe led all athletes with 14 digs.

The Falcons used a 10-point run to break open the first set en route to a 25-15 victory.

In the second set Montevallo closed on a 4-1 run to roll to a 25-17 win to seize control of the match.

Despite a late rally from the Lady Flames in set three, an Evelina Teran kill would clinch the sweep for the Falcons as they won 25-21 to remain unblemished in conference play this season.

Teran led the Falcons with 13 kills while Bri Blume trailed just behind with 12. Harley Masoner was credited with 17 assists while Michaela Henderson led the Alabama squad with 11 digs.

The Lady Flames end a three match road trip at 2-1 and will return home on Friday and host Christian Brothers at 7 p.m. Rival Union will come into Walker Arena on Saturday for a 2 p.m. first serve.
