Lady Flames Sizzle, Down CBU, 77-55

MEMPHIS – The Lee University Women's Basketball team completed its tour of West Tennessee with a 77-55 defeat of Christian Brothers University. The Lady Flames improved to 11-3 overall and remain tied atop the Gulf South Conference standings at 5-1. Christian Brothers dropped to 1-4 in conference play and 4-6 overall.

Just two days after holding on for a five-point win at No  1 Union University, the Lady Flames took little time to build a sizable lead. Lee led 21-14 after the opening period and pushed their advantage to 45-25 at the halftime break.

"I thought we responded pretty good for the most part today. It's a game that could have gotten away from us if we're still patting ourselves on the back for the Union win," said head coach Marty Rowe.

Abby Bertram led the Lee offense with 19 points. She made 8-of-13 shots, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc. The junior added two rebounds, two assists and four steals in the win.

Anna Woodford was the only other Lee player to reach double-figure scoring. Woodford finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

Kayla Tillie tallied nine markers, while Nicky Widenski and Haley Schubert contributed eight points each. Wilensky had four rebounds to go with a team-leading five assists. Schubert also had four rebounds and three assists.

"We competed hard and our focus was to just get better. If we continue to do those simple things well we're going to keep growing as a team," added Rowe.

CBU was led by Brynne Lytle and Kenzie Jones. Lytle posted 19 points, while Jones added 17 to go with seven rebounds.

The Lady Flames were 30-for-65 (.462) from the floor and made 8-of-26 (.308) from behind the arc. CBU was 19-for-53 (.358) from the field and 5-of-19 (.263) from distance. Neither team gained an advantage at the free throw line. The Lady Bucs were 12-for-18 (.667), while Lee made 9-of-15 (.600) attempts.

Lee nearly doubled their hosts in the rebounding battle. The Lady Flames pulled down 47 boards to 26 for CBU. Lee turned 14 offensive rebounds into eight second-chance points. CBU turned four offensive boards into four points.

The Lady Flames will return home on Thursday to take on West Georgia at 6 p.m. Lee returns home for the first time since Dec. 17 and will play in front of a student crowd in Walker Arena for the first time since Dec. 8.
