Atlanta, Ga. – The Emory University Eagles flexed their muscles and showcased why they are the defending NCAA D3 Volleyball National Champions in handing the Lee Lady Flames a quick 3-0 defeat on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and never looked back in taking set one, 25-12. Sets two and three were more of the same as Lee never got settled into the match falling 25-14 and 25-12.
Mary Katherine Givhan led the Lady Flames with six kills and a pair of blocks. Freshman Hannah Upton added five slams. Hanna Matthews had 12 assists. Lee hit at season-low .000 percent with an even 22 kills and 22 errors.
Leah Saunders led the Eagles with 10 kills. Morgan McKnight added eight slams on a sizzling .571 hitting percentage while Tara Martin posted six. Cassie Srb set things up with 25 assists.
The Lady Flames fall under .500 for the first time this season at 6-7. Lee will look to snap a four-match losing streak on Friday when they jump back into Gulf South Conference play and host Alabama Huntsville at 7 p.m. Emory moves to 13-1 on the year.
