AUM Takes Down Lady Flames, 3-1

The upstart Auburn Montgomery Warhawks handed the Lee volleyball team a 3-1 loss on Saturday afternoon on the sport court in Walker Arena.

The Warhawks opened the match with a 25-20 victory before the Lady Flames battled back for a 25-23 win in set two. Sets three and four were all AUM with identical 25-13 dominating wins to take the match.

"We just didn't play with the same energy and effort that we displayed last night in our five-set match with West Florida," said head coach Andrea Hudson.

The Lady Flames fall to 9-16 and 2-8 in the GSC and on the outside looking in on one of the eight spots in the GSC Championship with their sixth straight loss. AUM, in its first season of postseason eligibility, improves to 13-11 and 5-5 in the league.

Freshman Hannah Upton continued her successful play of late with her second straight match of 10 kills. She also added four blocks. Bailey Kress had Abby Stroh added eight slams each. Hanna Matthews set things up with 32 assists and added three kills while Mackenzie Pearson served up three aces.

Ariadne Borges paced the Warhawks with 15 kills on a sizzling 737 attack percentage. Giada Pais-Marden pitched in 14 and Sommer Rhea slammed home 12 to go along with 16 digs. Isadora Nicolai posted 48 assists.
For the match AUM hit at a .375 clip while Lee converted at .153 mark.

"We know we have our work cut out for us to try and slide into the seventh or eighth seed, so we need to get focused, especially with four straight matches on the road," noted Hudson.

The road trip begins on Friday with a visit to Mississippi College at 7 p.m.
