Lee Hosts Valdosta State In GSC Quarterfinals

Riley Henry is tied for the team-lead in goals with seven this season.

The regular season has ended, and the post season journey begins for the fourth-seeded Lee women's soccer team (10-3 GSC, 14-4 overall) in the quarter-final round of GSC Championship on Tuesday at 3 p.m. when they host Valdosta State (9-4, 11-6). The Blazers have won five straight matches and defeated a banged-up Lee team 2-0 on Nov. 7.

The Blazers got a pair of goals from Lauren Hicks in the 66th and 80th minutes to earn the victory over the Lady Flames. Coach Chris Hennessey's club closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win at West Georgia on Saturday. Riley Engels put the Lady Flames on top with her seventh goal of the year in the 79th minute and a PK by her sister Avery followed in the 88th minute to put the icing on the win. Lee has won 10 of its last 12 heading into the GSC Championship.

Said Coach Hennessey: "I think we all know that tomorrow is a must-win game. Valdosta is a very good team and that showed when we played them a few days ago. We must take advantage of being at home tomorrow as we have been on the road the past three out of the last four weekends. It will be a good game, but ultimately it will be down to whoever wants it the most."

ABOUT THE BRACKETT: Mississippi College is the No. 1 seed after going 12-0 in GSC play and will host Delta State. If the Lady Flames defeat Valdosta, they will advance to Pensacola, Florida and face Mississippi College in the semifinal round. Montevallo is the No. 2 seed and is pitted against Christian Brothers. No. 3 West Alabama will be going against West Florida to round out the challenging first-round bracket.
