Lady Flames Fall In Four Sets At West Alabama



LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Lee University volleyball team's attempt to come back from two sets down was stopped late in the fourth set as the Lady Flames lost 3-1 at West Alabama Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers (9-18, 3-8 GSC) held off the Lady Flames (9-18, 2-10 GSC) 25-22 and 25-23 to claim the first two sets. Lee responded with a 27-25 advantage in the third set and pushed UWA in the fourth set before falling 26-24.

Quinne Daoust and Bailey Kress led the Lee offense with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Abby Stroh delivered nine more kills in the loss.

Hanna Matthews dished out a match-high 39 assists. Stroh and Mackenzie Pearson added three assists each. Stroh also recorded a team-leading two service aces.

The Lady Flames combined for 13 blocks. Rachel Junen had five blocks, including three solo blocks. Mary Katherine Givhan totaled 3.5 blocks and Daoust tallied five block assists.

Lee had five players record double-digit digs on its way to 93 in all. Daoust recorded 20 digs, while Stroh and Micaela McMichen had 18 each. Matthews registered 12 digs, while Pearson contributed 11.

West Alabama received 14 kills from Ally Craig and 12 kills from Taylor Donato. Grace Harris (23) and Desiree Blount (19) combined for 42 of UWA's 50 assists. Rebecca Johnson led all players with 30 digs.

The Lady Flames look to end an eight-match losing skid with a trip to The University of Alabama in Huntsville on Tuesday, November 5. Lee is currently in 11th place and are 1.5 games back of four teams tied for seventh with four matches left to play. Valdosta State, West Alabama, Mississippi College and Christian Brothers all hold a 3-8 mark in conference play. The top eight teams earn berths to the GSC Championship.
