Volleyball Falls At Alabama Huntsville



HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Lee volleyball team suffered its ninth straight defeat on Tuesday evening at the hands of Alabama Huntsville, 3-0.

The Chargers jumped out early with a 25-15 win in the opening set. The home team posted 11 kills and committed just three errors (.242) while the Lady Flames struggled to get out of their own way with nine errors and just seven kills (-.067).

UAH took a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 victory in set two before sweeping the match with a 25-22 victory in the third set. 

Bailey Kress led the Lady Flames with 10 kills while Abby Stroh posted seven and Mary Katherine Givhan tallied six. Mackenzie Pearson served her way to five aces while Hanna Matthews set things up with 30 assists. Libero Micaela McMichen had 26 digs to help the defensive effort.

Isabelle Barnes and Kendall Scharbert led a balanced attack for the Chargers with nine slams each. Abby Brooks was close behind with eight kills. Barnes made her presence felt at the net defensively as she went up for a match-high seven blocks. Sabrina Duncan posted a double-double with 19 assists and 15 digs.

The Lady Flames slip to 9-19 overall and 2-11 in the GSC while Alabama Huntsville improves to 21-7 and is now 11-1 in the GSC, one game back of first-place and undefeated West Florida (12-0). 

Coach Andrea Hudson's club will travel to rival Shorter on Friday evening at 7 p.m. to wrap up a four-match road trip. The Lady Flames outlasted the Hawks in a five-set battle at Walker Arena back on Oct. 15.
