HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Abby Bertram scored her 1,000 career point to help lead the Lee women's basketball team to a 73-71 overtime victory at Alabama Huntsville on Thursday.
Bertram bounced back from a knee injury suffered last week at Montevallo to lead the Lady Flames in scoring with 21 points.
Bertram had a chance to give the Lady Flames the win in regulation but saw her baseline shot rim off to host the overtime period. UAH missed two foul shots with the score tied with only 2.2 seconds left on the clock.
Haley Schubert played 40 minutes and scored 19 points. Kayla Tillie registered nine points and five rebounds. Nikki Widenski had nine points, six rebounds and five steals.
"We made some big plays down the stretch tonight," said Lee head coach Marty Rowe. "We got fortunate they missed a pair of foul shots but we did a nice job of executing late in regulation and in the overtime to come away with the victory."
The Lady Flames hit 40.7 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from the 3-point line. Lee was 18 of 23 from the foul line. The Chargers shot 37.7 percent but kept things close with 11 triples.
Rowe's club held a 42-35 advantage on the glass and held a 32-18 lead on points in the paint.
Baylee Johnson led the Chargers with 24 points and six rebounds. Holly Harris added 19 points on 5 of 9 shooting from beyond the arc.
Lee improves to 19-5 and 13-3 in the GSC. The loss drops the Chargers to 11-11 and 9-7 in league play.
The Lady Flames will get back to work on Saturday at 5 p.m. as they host Auburn-Montgomery in the annual 'Hoops for Hope' game to benefit and raise awareness for families affected by Autism.
