Lady Flames Scorch Southern Wesleyan 20-1



Dariana Blanton and Becca Broadwick tallied four goals each in Lee University Lacrosse's 20-1 win over visiting Southern Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon. The Lady Flames improved to 2-0 on the young season, while the Warriors fell to 0-4.

Broadwick opened the scoring just 19 seconds in with an unassisted goal and put Lee up 2-0 a little over a minute later with an assist from Emma Hill.

The Lady Flames continued with the pressure and posted seven more goals in the opening 10 minutes. Lee added five more over the next 20 minutes to hold a 14-0 lead at the halftime break.

The Warriors ended the shutout with a goal just over four minutes into the second half. The Lady Flames added six more over the final 26 minutes to supply the final margin.

"We worked all week in practice in not letting off the pedal," said Lee assistant coach Megan Smith. "We really wanted to make sure we played a full 60 minutes of Lee Lacrosse and I think we did a good job of that today."

Shayna Ryan, Emma Hill and Kaylyn Dillon recorded three goals each. Ryan also dished off one assist, while Hill added three assists to be Lee's scoring leader of the day. Rachael Giles tallied two goals and had two assists to finish with four points. Emmerie Wheeler supplied one goal and an assist in the win.

Abby Sanders started and played the first 30 minutes in goal. The senior recorded two saves to earn the win. Camillie Davenport entered the game for the final 30 minutes where she gave up one goal and had one save.
Tabitha Beecher tallied an unassisted goal for Southern Wesleyan's lone tally.

The Lady Flames outshot the Warriors 34-4 and placed 28 shots on goal to four for the visitors. Lee was successful on five of their six clear attempts. SWU was 3-for-12 on clear attempts.

Lee accumulated 17 draw controls to five for SWU. Ryan, Dillon and Blanton were credited with five draw controls each.

The Lady Flames return to action on Thursday (Feb. 28) against Tennessee Wesleyan University. The non-conference matchup is scheduled for 3 p.m. start.
