VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Lee volleyball suffered it second straight loss to open Gulf South Conference play, falling in straight sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-12) at Valdosta State on Friday evening.
Freshman Abby Stroh continued her stellar play with 12 kills to lead the Lady Flames. The powerful outside hitter also had 10 digs and three aces. Bailey Kress joined Stroh in double-digits with 11 slams. Hanna Matthews set up 25 kills and added 14 digs while Micaela McMichen posted a match-high 22 digs from her libero position.
Grace Daugherty paced the Blazer offense with 12 slams. Jessie Mooney added eight and 17 digs while Tammy Reyes Perez registered a double-double with 22 assists and 13 digs.
The Flames hit .118 for the match while the Blazers connected on .260 of their attacks. Lee was done in by 27 hitting errors compared to just seven for Valdosta State.
"It was a really disappointing loss as we really fought hard," said Lee head coach Andrea Hudson. "The stats showed it all though as we had 23 hitting errors. It's hard to win with that."
Lee falls to an even 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the GSC while Valdosta State improves to 10-5 and 2-0 in league play.
The Lady Flames will step outside of conference play to battle traditional D3 power, Emory University in Atlanta on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
