BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lee University men's track & field team made its second trip in eight days to the Birmingham CrossPlex to compete in the KMS Invitational on Sunday.
Gari Garmendia extended one of his Lee records, while Jonah Mayes and Stacen Cunningham tied program records. One week after setting the program record in the weight throw at 14.26, Garmendia added to it with a throw of 14.86 meters to finish eighth. He added a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.18 meters.
Mayes cleared 1.95 meters in the high jump for eighth place. It was the second consecutive week the sophomore posted that school-record height. Cunningham was ninth in the 60-meter hurdles. His time of 8.58 equaled Jeremiah McCain's program record. McCain has recorded that time twice in his Lee career.
McCain joined Cunningham in the 60-meter hurdles and placed 10
th (8.68). In the 400-meter dash, McCain stopped the clock at 49.841 to claim ninth. Jailon Santee was 30
th (52.77) with Charles Nnantah right behind at 52.96 (31
st). Campbell and Nnantah also ran the 200-meter dash where Campbell finished 12
th (22.39) and Nnantah was 28
th (23.52).
Campbell, Cunningham, Santee and McCain made up Lee's 4x400-meter relay team. The foursome combined time of 3:22.80 put them in sixth.
Mayes was fourth in the triple jump with a measurement of 13.68 meters and his long jump of 6.61 meters was good for fifth. Derek Flatford placed seventh with a jump of 6.52 meters.
Will Stone (4:19.80) was the third runner across the finish line of the mile run. Casey Guthery (4:21.90) was fourth and Ben Gilman (4:37.09) finished 11
th.
Elias Sandifer covered 800 meters in 1:58.35 for sixth place. Jared Herzog was seventh at 1:58.37. Jacob Hatcher had the 11
th-best time at 2:00.97.
Three Flames were in the field of theh 3000-meter run. Thomas Kelton was first across the finish line with a third-place time of 8:38.85. Andrew Hendry was eighth overall at 8:57.10 and Ezekiel Harless was ninth (9:09.33).
Daniel Surman and Eli Brooks were first and third, respectively, in the pole vault. Surman cleared 4.25 meters and Brooks succeeded at 3.80 meters.
The Flames will travel to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the Camel City Invitational on February 7-8.
