Softball Scores 18 Runs in DH Sweep to Power Past Ohio Dominican

Despite weather wreaking havoc on the original schedule the Lee softball team busted out the bats and scored 18 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Ohio Dominican on Sunday afternoon from Butler Field.

The Lady Flames battled back from a 4-1 and 8-6 deficit to top the Panthers, 11-9 in game one and controlled the nightcap throughout to earn a 7-2 win.

Lee was originally supposed to host a 16-team tournament at Chattanooga's Warner Park this weekend but inclement weather caused the event to be cancelled.

The Lady Flames will travel to North Georgia on Tuesday to battle the Nighthawks in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Lee opens up Gulf South Conference play against West Georgia  this weekend at Butler Field starting with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m.

"We are still learning to play together but we got two wins over a quality team. It was a tough week to practice but we learned how to get better in different environments," said Lee head coach Emily Russell. "The guys at Lee's Physical Plant worked very hard on our field today to get it ready and I appreciate them very much."

GAME 1
With the score tied at eight in the bottom of the sixth inning, senior Brooklynn Frazier delivered the decisive blow with a three-run homer to left field. Frazier finished with four RBI in the contest as Lee rallied to an 11-7 win in game one.

Senior Abby McKinney led the 10-hit attack with a double and two singles and two RBI. Leadoff hitter Kayla Louie was a perfect 3 for 3 with four runs scored and stole two bases to give her 100 career steals for her career. Louie is the only player in Lee history to reach the 100-steal milestone.

Lulu Vasquez started in the circle for the Lady Flames and lasted 4.1 innings giving up seven runs, four earned, on five hits. She struggled with her command, walking six but did have seven punch outs.

Gracie Leslie (1-0) came on in relief and earned the win going 2.2 innings. She yielded four hits and two runs.

Sydney Long (1-0) tossed all six innings for Ohio Dominican.  Long was charged with 11 runs, seven earned, on 10 hits.

Leadoff hitter Carson Hackerd led the Panthers with three hits. She blasted two solo home runs and scored twice. Braxton Downs hit a pinch-hit three-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Panthers a 7-6 advantage.

GAME 2
After game one's back and forth roller coaster, game two was belonged to the Lady Flames with little drama.

Lee surrendered a run in the top of the first but Abby McKinney responded with a three-run laser beam home run to right to give the Lady Flames a lead they would
never relinquish. McKinney added run-scoring singles in the third and fifth innings to finish the day with six hits and seven RBI.

Shonna Penney (2-0) tossed a complete game in the circle for the Lady Flames allowing two runs on five hits. She struck out eight and gave up just two free passes.

Lily Hatcher was a perfect 3 for 3 with a triple and a run scored. Louie added two more hits and swiped two more bags to give her four steals on the day.

Cameron Barber (0-1) was lifted after 4.1 innings for Ohio Dominican. She gave up six runs and seven hits while walking four and striking out five. Barber did single home the first run for the Panthers at the dish in the first inning. Landry Slide provided the other run on a solo home run in the sixth.
