GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The Lee women's lacrosse team surpassed last year's win total with a 14-9 road victory at Tusculum on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Flames improved to 4-2 under second-year head coach Derrel Martin after winning just three games last season. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-3 overall.
Dariana Blanton scored four goals for the second straight contest to lead the Lady Flames to victory. Giselle Gonzalez and Brittney White each scored three goals while Shayna Ryan and Kelsey McGowen added two apiece.
White, who as just a freshman, is now first in all of NCAA D2 in draw controls per game (11.40) and second in total draw controls (57), won seven and dished off three assists. Kaylyn Dillon and Emily Osborne and Blanton helped control possession with three ground balls.
Coach Martin used two goalkeepers in the victory with Caleigh Smith starting and working 21:26 before giving way to Lindsey Glass. Smith allowed five goals and recorded one saves while the win was credited to Glass who registered four saves and allowed four scores.
Tusculum also used two goalies. Kate Pipkin allowed nine goals and had five saves in the first half and was tagged with the loss. Caroline Monroe entered after the halftime break and yielded five goals while tallying five saves.
Juliette Cusano led the Pioneers with four goals and five draw controls. Emily Youngblood followed with three goals.
The Lady Flames closed the half on an 8-2 punctuated by a goal from White with three minutes left int the half.
The Lady Flames will continue a three-game road trip with a visit to the Palmetto State for two non-conference battles. Lee will visit Due South, S.C. on Saturday at 3 p.m. Lee is 2-1 all-time against the Flying Fleet.
