The No. 13 West Florida Argonauts came into Walker Arena on Friday night and flexed their muscles as they put together a convincing straight set victory over the Lee volleyball team.
The Argonauts hit a sizzling .391 as a team and committed just 10 errors in the match while the Lady Flames struggled to find points and finished with a -.071 hitting percentage. West Florida turned away 11 attacks at the net while the Lady Flames posted five.
West Florida opened the night with a 25-13 victory in set one to set the tone for the evening. The Argonauts put together a near flawless second set, committing just one error en route to a 25-6 win. The Argos would not give the Lady Flames any life in the third set as they put the match away with a 25-12 victory.
"I give West Florida all the credit tonight. They came in here and had a gameplan and executed it," said Lee head coach Callie Murphy. "I didn't think we did a very good job responding to adversity tonight. We didn't make the proper adjustments we needed to make in order to get ourselves back into the match."
Lee was led by Emma Flowers who posted five kills. Allie Whittinghill added four slams and Lyssi Snouffer had three. Reagan Bratton registered 10 assists in the match.
The Lady Flames fall to 5-11 on the year and are now 3-5 in the GSC. West Florida improves to 21-1 on the year and are a perfect 9-0 in league play.
"We have an opportunity to bounce right back tomorrow and I have no doubt that our team will be ready to put this one behind us and put together a more complete effort against another quality opponent in AUM," said Murphy.
Lee will get a chance to put this bad taste after of its mouth quickly as it welcomes Auburn Montgomery to the Sport Court at Walker Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m.
