Thirteen Lee women basketball players saw action and 12 scored in an 89-31 victory over visiting Toccoa Falls College inside Walker Arena
on Tuesday evening. The victory pushed the Lady Flames to 3-0 on the year. They will return to action on Thursday and will host Brescia University
at 6 p.m.
"We had four goals in mind this evening and reached three of those," commented Lee Coach Marty Rowe after the contest. "We were able to get a look at several of our reserves and give them some extended minutes. We also wanted to work on our defense and did a pretty good job with that. We wanted to share the ball and had 25 assists, but we had 14 turnovers and we missed way too many layups. We will be working on that tomorrow in practice."
Micah Black came off the bench and scored a career high 21 points to lead the Lady Flames scoring. She made 5-of-10 3-point attempts, nailed 7-of-14 overall shots from the field and 2-of-3 free throws. Julia Duncan added 10 points and Macy Woodworth joined Black in coming off the bench and scored in double figures with 10 points. Woodworth was joined by Black in drawing praise from Coach Rowe for their efforts.
Haley Schubert led Lee with seven assists and Halle Hughes had four. Woodworth also led the Lady Flames in rebounds with seven, Hughes had six, Ally Welfel and Addison Smith pulled down five apiece. Lee outrebounded the Screaming Eagles 50-26.
Toccoa Falls never reached double-figures in all four quarters and shot only 23% for the game. However, Jaliyah Howard battled hard and came away with 15 points. She canned 4-of-8 3-point attempts. No other Eagle scored more than six points. Cynthia Engler managed eight rebounds and totaled six points.
Lee scored 34 points off Toccoa turnovers, outscored the visitors 38-10 in points in the paint, 18-2 in second chance points, 19-0 on fast break and 58-4 in points off the bench.
