SHARON COLYEAR-DANVILLE SEASON OPENER RESULTS
BOSTON, Mass./BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Celine Ritter and Toni Moore put the final touches on a successful opening weekend for the Lee University women's track & field indoor season with their performances at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener Saturday evening. The Lady Flames combined for four national qualifying marks and three Lee records.
The duo competed in the 5000-meter run with Ritter completing the race at 16:23.46 to place 34
th overall. The senior eclipsed the previous Lee record time of 16:55.48 that was set by Moore at the Gulf South Conference Indoor Championships last February. Moore crossed the finish line in 45
th with a time of 16:57.03. Both runners met the qualifying mark of 17:26.42.
At Friday's BSC Panther Icebreaker inside the Birmingham CrossPlex, Kristen Blevins and Hannah Wright met two more qualifying marks and Lee records. Blevins just missed the Lee record (7.66) with a preliminary time of 7.67 and blew past it in the semi-final and final rounds with matching times of 7.62 seconds to finish second. The qualifying mark to beat was 7.67 seconds.
Wright opened the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.93 seconds in the preliminary. She set a new Lee record and met the qualifying mark of 8.83 with a semi-final time of 8.79. The sophomore improved upon her marks after stopping the clock at 8.72 for a fourth-place finish in the final.
Baylie Murphy, Jaila Whitaker and Janay Ryan joined Blevins in the 60-meter dash. Murphy posted times of 7.82 and 7.83, but did not qualify for the final. Whitaker (7.97) and Ryan (8.03) also advanced to the semi-finals. Ryan was 21
st (7.98) and Whitaker finished 29
th (8.14) in the semi-final round.
Blevins added a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash. She crossed the finish line at 24.92 with Wright just behind in third place at 25.36. Carissa Hall (25.96) was 15
th and Whitaker (26.37) was 21
st.
Mikayla Beeler and Ryan were Lee's two representatives in the 400-meter dash. Beeler finished sixth with a time of 58.78 seconds and Ryan finished at 59.77 for 10
th. Elizabeth Beckham added an eighth-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a mark of 10:56.58.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Ryan, Blevins, Hall and Beeler ran a combined time of 3:59.66 to finish fifth. Brooke Long, Sydney White, Murphy and Liezl Theron placed ninth with a time of 4:07.61.
White and Devon Jackett competed in the high jump and tied for 17
th with a height of 1.40 meters. Hall recorded a long jump of 5.32 meters for sixth place. Long was 15
th with a measurement of 5.12 meters and Whitaker's jump of 4.84 meters put her in 20
th. In the triple jump, Hall finished ninth at 11.23 meters. Long was 11
th at 10.93 meters and Murphy placed 22
nd with a triple jump of 9.26 meters.
Deborah Rubin and Austyn Durham took on the shot put and weight throw events. Rubin's throw of 12.31 meters put her in ninth in the shot put, while her mark of 16.56 meters in the weight throw was the event winner. Durham was 30
th in the shot put with a throw of 9.48 meters and 13
th with a weight throw toss of 13.37 meters.
The Lady Flames are scheduled to return to action on January 15 at the UAB Vulcan Invitational. The event will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
