CARROLLTON, Georgia – Haley Schubert poured in a season high 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds in leading the Lee women's basketball team to a 69-60 victory over West Georgia on Friday afternoon. Schubert hit 11-of-23 shots and made 8-of-8 free throws. She also dished off four assists.
No other Lady Flame reached double-digit scoring but seven others got into the scoring category. Julia Duncan finished with nine points. Hannah Garrett followed with seven points and four boards while Halle Hughes pulled down seven rebounds to go along with six points. Morgan Carbaugh tallied six points and pulled down six rebounds. Cam Grant also had six points and seven boards.
"Good win for our team tonight. West Georgia has always been a tough place for us to play, so tonight was a step in the right direction," commented Coach Marty Rowe after the victory. "Tomorrow is a great opportunity for us to continue to grow." With the win the Lady Flames improved to 9-5 while West Georgia dropped to 5-10.
The Wolves got 17 points from Siera Carter. Valencia Carroll also was also in double-figure scoring with 10. Morgan Perkins helped the losers with 11 rebounds and eight points. West Georgia out-rebounded Lee 43-38.
Lee made 26-of-58 shots (45%). They struggled from 3-point range making just 4-of-19. They converted 13-of-19 charity attempts. The Lady Flames outscored the host club 34-26 in points in the paint and had 11 points of fast breaks to just six for the Wolves. The biggest stat of the game might have been Lee's 22 points off turnovers.
West Georgia made just 20-of-63 shots (32%). The Wolves only made 5-of-18 3-pointers but converted 15-of-20 free throws.
The two teams were tied at 16 at the end of the first quarter and remained a 26-26 contest at the half. The Lady Flames finally managed to put some distance behind the Wolves with a 23-13 margin in the third period. It came at the right time because both clubs tallied 21 points apiece in the final period.
