The University of Montevallo women's basketball team gained control in the opening minutes and never trailed in posting a 74-60 victory over Lee inside Walker Arena on Saturday afternoon. The win improved the second place Falcons to 11-4 in GSC play while the Lady Flames slipped to 11-6.
The Lady Flames will close out the regular season on Friday and Saturday when they travel to Auburn Montgomery for the weekend doubleheader. The Falcons will be at home and will be hosting Shorter University in their final two games.
"Montevallo was better than us today and just simply put, the better team won. Life is about choices and today we chose not to compete. It was so disappointing that we didn't play with any energy," said the frustrated Lee veteran coach Marty Rowe.
In a low-scoring first quarter, the Falcons gained a 15-9 advantage. Lee matched Montevallo in the second period as both clubs put 14 markers on the board, but the Falcons still led 29-23.
