The Lee softball drilled five home runs to complete a three-game sweep of Gulf South Conference rival Shorter University with a 19-1 dominating victory on a sun-splashed Sunday afternoon at Butler Field.
The offense was led by two home runs and four RBI from Taylor De Adder. On the series the junior from Maple Ridge, Canada went 8 of 15 with four home runs, 10 RBI and nine runs scored. De Adder also delivered in the circle as she tossed five innings allowing just one run on three hits. She struck out three and walked three to improve to 4-2 on the year.
The Lady Flames scored three runs in the second, 10 runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth to light up the Butler Field scoreboard. Laney Harris went 3 for 3 with two doubles and scored four runs. Janina Remley delivered her first home run of her career as she launched a two-run bomb over the left field fence. Remley went 2 for 3 with four RBI and scored twice.
Sophomore Sydney Piattoni also slugged her first career home run with a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Madison Besaw capped off the home run derby and the scoring with as she reached out and pulled an outside pitch over the wall in left. Besaw homered in all three games against Shorter.
"It was nice to see so many people swing the bats well today," said Lee head coach Emily Russell. "We are a young team and hit a rough patch in the season but I think just getting the win in game two against King (on Wednesday) really helped get us refocused. We made things interesting in game two on Friday but I'm proud of how we battled and took care of business to get three big GSC victories. We are excited for these last three conference series and really believe are best softball is in front of us."
Julie Sanderlin (1-9) started as was tagged with the loss for Shorter. She allowed six runs on seven hits. Sydney Poston, Kiera Dudley and Anslee Anderson singled to account for the only offense.
The Lady Flames have now won four in a row and improve to 13-16 overall and 10-11 in the GSC. The loss drops the struggling Hawks to 4-27 and 0-21
Lee will head to Livingston, Ala. for a three-game series against West Alabama starting on Friday with major GSC playoff position implications. The Lady Flames return home on Saturday, April 24 to wrap up the home portion of the regular season with Mississippi College.
