Murphy Earns First Career Coaching Victory as Lady Flames Top Young Harris, 3-1

The celebration was on at Walker Arena on Thursday evening as the Lee volleyball team secured first-year head coach Callie Murphy's first coaching victory with a 3-1 win over Young Harris.

Emma Flowers led the way for the Lady Flames with 20 kills on a .326 attack percentage. Newcomer Lyssi Snouffer made the most of her first match in Walker Arena with a double double, 11 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Allie Whittinghill added 10 slams. As a team the Lady Flames finished with a sizzling .333 attack percentage. Reagan Bratton set the offense up with 42 assists.

"I was really proud of the way the girls responded tonight in our first home match after a difficult start to our season," said Murphy. "We had several players step up and were very efficient in our attack tonight.

The Lady Flames opened things up with a 25-18 victory in set one. The Mountain Lions came back to win set two, 25-21. The match would turn with a dominating set three performance from the home team. The Lady Flames went on an 8-0 run early in the set to make it 11-3 and never looked back en route to a 25-13 win. The fourth and final set was a back and forth affair before Lee put it away on a kill by Bratton.

Alex Pierre led Young Harris with 10 kills while Jessica Beckner added eight. Joha Bernis posted 19 digs and added three aces.

"We talk a lot about family here at Lee and so it was so incredibly special to win my first match at home here in Walker Arena with my parents in the stands and so many people who are my knew family here at Lee," said Murphy. "We are starting to play the way we know we are capable of playing and I believe that as the season goes on we will continue to improve.

The Lady Flames will get back on the court on Friday night at 7 p.m. as they host King University. The Lee Invitational will conclude on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Flames take on Kentucky State.
