Lady Flames Improve GSC Record To 2-0 With Victory Over CBU

First year Coach Callie Murphy and the Lee University volleyball team completed the opening weekend of the Gulf South Conference schedule with a victory over Christian Brothers University inside Walker Arena on Saturday afternoon. The 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-20) win came after a thrilling five-set victory over Union University on Friday and put the Lady Flames at 2-0 in GSC play and 4-5 overall.

Emma Flowers led the victory with 13 kills while Allie Whittinghill followed with nine slams and Lyssi Snouffer pitched in with six. Calina Croy set up her teammates with 29 assists. The Lady Flames served up eight aces with Snouffer leading the way with three. Scottie Cook and Croy had two apiece.

Kamryn Halpin went to the sport court for 13 digs while Mackenzie Pearson had nine and Snouffer eight. Cook was credited with three blocks and Whittinghill two.

Lauren Ballard had 10 kills for the losers and Kolbi Reed followed with eight. Aldon Pilz dished off 26 assists and Maddie Stevens had 16 receptions and Reed countered with three blocks.

"I like the way we bounced back after the tough and emotional win over Union on Friday night," said Coach Murphy. "Christian Brothers came in and battled us, but we had different players step up to the challenge all weekend. I was glad to be able to get a few players who don't get to play a lot into the lineup this afternoon."

The Lady Flames have little time to celebrate. They will travel to Atlanta on Tuesday and face Emory University in a 6 p.m. non-conference game. Next weekend, Coach Murphy will send her team into four straight conference road tests beginning with Shorter University and then on to Alabama Huntsville, Valdosta State and West Georgia before returning home on Oct. 12 to host Valdosta State.

"We have very little time to celebrate," commented the coach. "Emory always has a good team, Shorter has really improved, and Alabama Huntsville has a veteran coach that I know from my playing days at West Alabama."
