Crisler, Dirkse Named First Team All-GSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Lee seniors Kate Dirkse and Ellie Crisler were named First Team All-GSC that was released by the GSC office on Friday. The squad was selected by the GSC women's soccer coaches.  Thirteen players make up the team which consists of four players from regular-season champion West Florida. Mississippi College also had four players named. 

Blair Cowan, Maciah Lipsey and Joe Bartlinski, all of West Florida won GSC top honors. Cowan was the Offensive Player of the Year, Lipsey the Defensive Player of the Year and Bartlinski Coach of the Year.  

In 17 games and helping the Lady Flames to a 10-2-5 overall mark and 8-2-3 in conference play, Crisler scored a team-leading 17 goals and dished off four assists in accumulating 34 points. Dirkse known for her outstanding defensive play, also tallied five goals and added two assists in 17 games. 

"I'm really pleased for Ellie and Kate," commented Lee coach Chris Hennessey after receiving the news that his two seniors were honored. "We have a young team this year, but their leadership and experience has helped the team through tough moments. Both have shown their quality on the field and are fully deserving of this recognition." 

The Lady Flames quickly turned their attention towards another battle with Montevallo (12-2-3, 8-2-3) on Sunday. The Falcons handed Lee a 2-1 defeat back on Oct. 14 and earned the right to host the opening round of the GSC tournament.  

"Sunday will be a battle. Montevallo is a very good team and especially difficult to beat at home," said Coach Hennessey. "They don't give up a lot of goals, so we need to make sure we take advantage of any opportunities we get. I expect it to be a tight game."
