Dirkse Named United Soccer Coaches First-Team Scholar Athlete

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches announced the association's 2022 Men's and Women's Scholar All-America Teams, including the Scholar Players of the Year, for all levels of college soccer on Thursday. Lee University's Kate Dirkse was named to the First-Team All-America. She has a 3.98 GPA with a major in finance at Lee

On the field, Dirkse was named to a Second-Team and a Third-Team All-American. Dirkse, a defender from Chattanooga, ended the season with seven goals and two assists while anchoring the back line for the Lady Flames.
 

Six Gulf South Conference soccer student-athletes were named 2022 Scholar All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches.

Among those recognized were four women's players and two men, which represented four different schools. Collectively, Mississippi College led the way with three total Scholar All-America selections, while Christian Brothers, Lee and Montevallo had one apiece.

The women's list was headlined by Lee's Kate Dirkse as she received First Team accolades, while Mississippi College trio of Emma Young, Erin Hederman and Beatrice Currie were tabbed for the Second Team. The quartet previously garnered First Team Scholar-All South Region honors.

For the men, Christian Brothers's Brain Torre and Montevallo's Edin Hernandez both garnered Second Team Scholar All-America nods. The tandem was previously named to Scholar All-South Region Team and were joined by Lee's Jeremy Bischoff. 

Student-athletes were nominated by their respective schools and voted by members of the United Soccer Coaches.
