HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lee women's basketball team saw its eight-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Alabama Huntsville Chargers, 67-60 on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers used a 25-18 fourth quarter to take down the Lady Flames despite a 26-point effort from Haley Schubert. The Knoxville native was 10 of 23 from the field and had five steals. Halle Hughes added 10 points and four rebounds while Macy Woodworth came of the bench and poured in 10 points in 18 minutes.
As a team the Lady Flames shot just 2 of 18 from the 3-point line and were dominated on the boards with the Chargers holding a, 42-21 edge. Lee stayed in the contest thanks to a smothering defense that forced 14 steals and 24 turnovers. The Lady Flames scored 27 points off turnovers.
Alexis Woods led UAH with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Miajah Bullock chipped in 16 points and Holly Harris added 14 points and six rebounds.
The loss drops the Lady Flames to 18-4 overall and 11-3 in the GSC. The win is a bright spot in what's been a difficult year for the Chargers as they move to 4-15 overall and 3-11 in league play.
Lee will look to put the tough loss in the rear-view mirror as it makes a quick trip down to Shorter to host the Lady Hawks on Monday at 6 p.m. The game was originally schedule for Jan. 6 but was postponed due to COVID issues.
