Lacrosse Comeback Falls Short To Lenoir-Rhyne

The Lee Women's Lacrosse team comeback fell just short as they dropped Saturday afternoons contest, 8-7, to Lenoir-Rhyne from the Ray Conn Sports Complex.

In the final period the Bears stretched their lead to three with 11:32 remaining and then the comeback attempt started. Just 90 seconds later Megan Trout threw in her second goal of the season to trim the lead two.

After both teams were held scoreless for almost the rest of the match Brittney White cut the lead to one with just under a minute left with her third goal of the year. White then came away with the next draw control and picked up the foul. On the ensuing free position shot Teanna Sieben came up with the save. Avery Schenk was there as she scooped up the rebound and fired towards goal, but the visiting keeper kept it out and Lee (1-1) could not get another shot off to fall, 8-7.

White led all goal scorers as the only player with three goals to complete the hat trick. Hannah Vecsey, Dariana Blanton, Hannah Nee, and Megan Trout all threw in one goal each for the Lady Flames.

Kaleigh Bernard, White, Nee, and Caleigh Smith all had two ground balls each and White led all players with 10 draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Bernard got the start and went the first half making two saves while allowing five goals. Smith came in for the final two periods allowing three goals while making five stops.

Lenoir-Rhyne (1-0) had four players have two goals each. Emilee Foxall, Makenna Filley, Kaitlyn Cavanaugh, and Jolan Morey found the back of the net for the guests. Isabelle Dunnam led the Bears with a pair of ground balls.

Sieben lasted the entire match in goal for the guests giving up seven goals while making 18 saves in the contest.

Lee got on the board first as Blanton threw in her eighth goal of the season just 36 seconds into the match.

The Bears answered with a trio of goals to jump out to an early, 3-1, lead.

The Lady Flames answered with a pair of goals to even things at three with 8:46 to go in the opening half but Lenoir-Rhyne found a way to come out with a, 5-4, advantage at the break.

Both teams were able to find the back of the net one time in the third before the fourth quarter ensued.

Lee will look to bounce back next week as they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the third-ranked Queens University of Charlotte on Thursday at 7 p.m.
