BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lee University track & field teams claimed five of the six weekly honors awarded by the Gulf South Conference this week for their performances at the Camel City Invitational and the University of South Alabama Jaguar Invitational last weekend.
Carson Bix earned GSC Men's Track Performer of the Week, while Gift Nikosi was named both Men's Field Performer and Freshman Performer of the Week. Celine Ritter received recognition as the Women's Track Performer of the Week and Carissa Hall was the Women's Freshman Performer of the Week.
Bix was part of the Elite 3000-meter race at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. The junior crossed the finish line in 7:55.16 as the top Div. II finisher in the event, while also setting the second-fastest provisional time in Div. II this season. Bix also helped lead Lee to first place in the Distance Medley Race with a time of 9:51.31 which was nearly 30 seconds faster than the second-place team.
Nkosi competed in the high jump at the South Alabama Jaguar Invitational in Montgomery, Ala. on Feb. 6. The freshman was the highest placing Div. II athlete after clearing a height of 2.08 meters which placed sixth in the event and currently ranks 10
th in the NCAA provisional times.
Ritter posted the fastest 3000-meter time in Div. II this season after crossing the finish line in 9:17.68 for a 10
th-place finish at the Camel City Invitational.
Hall competed in the triple jump at the USA Jaguar Invitational. The freshman leaped a sixth-place distance of 11.92-meters which cleared the NCAA DII provisional mark and is currently ranked 20
th nationally.
The Flames and Lady Flames are scheduled to compete at the GSC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 15-16. The postseason event will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
