CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lady Flames completed a Gulf South Conference doubleheader sweep of Delta State with a dominating 11-4 win in game one and a comeback 7-5 victory in game two on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Flames draw back to .500 at 11-11 on the year and are now 5-6 in the GSC. Delta State falls to 9-12 overall and 4-6 in league play.
Lee will head back to the Magnolia State next week as it visits Mississippi College for a three-game weekend series starting on Saturday at 3 p.m.
"We took the things we learned on Thursday and were able to apply them today and get the wins. Delta is a tough team because they never quit. They're always fighting and playing hard. We had a great day overall as a team" said Lee head coach Emily Russell. "We out hit them in game one today but didn't have the runs to show until the 7th. It was a closer game than the final score showed. Lexi Scalzo had a great day and it was good to see her break out a little bit. Alaina came in game one in a tied game and got her first win. We needed that big performance today. In game two Nyah got through six and Barnett closed the door."
GAME TWO
Alex Scalzo delivered a clutch two-run single in the top of the seventh to help the Lady Flames complete the Saturday sweep of the Lady Statesemen, 7-5 in Friday's nightcap.
Scalzo and Bre Patton led the way with three hits each. Sidney Lee clobbered a solo shot homer to left field in the fourth inning. The Lady Flames battled back from a one down with a three-run fifth and then answered a two sixth by Delta State with the clutch hit by Scalzo.
Nyah Vogel (6-5) earned the win as she scattered 10 hits over six innings. Vogel allowed four earned runs and struck out four. Madison Barnett came on to slam the door in the seventh with two strikeouts to earn her first save of the year.
