ROME, Ga. – The Lee women's lacrosse team opened up Gulf South Conference play in style on Wednesday evening with a dominating 23-7 victory at Shorter.
Dariana Blanton led the scoring barrage with seven goals to increase her conference-lead in goals to 32. Shayna Ryan, Kelsey McGowen, and Brittney White each registered three scores. Hannah Vecsey, Audrey Dutton, Avery Schenk tallied two each.
The Lady Flames broke open up a 10-6 game with 11 straight goals. The rally started on a goal by Blanton with 4:40 remaining in the second quarter and lasted until Shorter finally got back on the board with 12:11 left in the fourth. Lee scored 13 of the final 14 goals in the contest.
Blanton did more than just score as she also dished off three assists for a total of 10 points. Ryan and White also had multiple assists with two each.
Kaleigh Bernard earned the win allowing six goals over 46:39. The sophomore posted seven saves and now has 44 on the season. Caleigh Smith cleaned up the final 13:21 in net and allowed just one goal while registering two saves.
Alexis Mount led the Hawks with three goals while Ansley Barge added two. Makayla McKinney suffered the loss in goal as she allowed the 23 goals while tallying nine saves.
The Lady Flames improve to 4-5 with the win and are 1-0 in the GSC. The loss drops Shorter to 2-7 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
Lee will finally return home after a three-game road trip on Sunday as it hosts conference newcomer Lander at 2 p.m. at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
