Softball Splits Pair with No. 12 Warhawks

The Lee softball team battled for a doubleheader split with No. 12 Auburn Montgomery on a sun-splashed Saturday afternoon at Butler Field. The Lady Flames lost game one, 5-2 but rallied back for a 6-3 victory in the night cap.

The Lady Flames are now 8-10 overall and 2-5 in the GSC. AUM moves to 14-4 and 4-1 in league play.
"I think we weren't a big enough presence in game one. In game two we built some momentum. I feel like a turning point was Javaria's long at bat. We tipped the game and played with a lot more confidence. That setup Janina to really of the lead. She made her presence known today, said Lee head coach Emily Russell. "Madison pitched well and we made some plays behind her to keep ourselves in control. This is another confidence boost for this young team."
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Game 1 - Lee 2 AUM 5
Kat Fallen hit a 3-run homer in the 1st and a solo shot in the fourth to help lead the Warhawks to a 5-2 win over Lee in game one.
Nyah Vogel (4-4) went the distance for the Lady Flames as she scattered 11 hits over seven innings pitched. Only 2 of the 5 runs allowed were earned. She struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Morgan Ferguson moved to a perfect 8-0 in the circle for the Warhawks ad she gave up two runs on seven hits over seven. She walked one and punched out three.
Ana Macha got the Lady Flames on the board with an RBI sac bunt in the seventh. Janina Remley doubled home the other Lee run.
Game 2 - LEE 6 AUM 3
Madison Barnett went the full seven for Lee in the circle and gave up three runs, one earned as the Lady Flames battled back to take game 2, 6-3.
Lee got the bats going opening up a 6-0 advantage. Alex Scalzo had an RBI single in the second to start things off. Macha scored on a wild pitch in the third and then the game really tilted after a long at bat by Javaria Smith resulted in a two-out walk and Remley capped off the rally with a two-run homer to center. Remley scored three runs in the contest.
Kylie Bohl added a sacrifice fly in the fifth and the final Lee run scored via an error.
The Warhawks used three pitchers in the loss with Avery Dickerson starting and going four innings. She allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out four. Brinkley Yevak was tagged for a pair of runs and Alanna Goble closed the game with two scoreless innings.
