Lady Flames Complete Weekend Sweep of Christian Brothers With 8-0 Shutout

The Lee University softball team completed a three-game Gulf South Conference weekend sweep of Christian Brothers University with an 8-0 run-rule shortened game Saturday afternoon at Butler Field.

The Lady Flames (23-17, 14-9 GSC) tallied a solo run in the first inning, added three in the third and four more in the fourth and kept CBU (13-28, 7-17) off the board to activate the run-rule after the fifth inning.

Sidney Lee and Breanna Patton led the Lee offense with two hits each. Lee delivered an RBI single in the first inning and drilled a two-run home run in the third. Patton doubled in a run in the fourth.

Laney Harris and Alexa Scalzo recorded doubles for their lone hits, while Ana Macha, Javaria Smith and Shelby Cole each added a single. Smith, Harris and Cole drove in one run apiece and Janina Remley walked to force in the team's eighth run.

Nyah Vogel allowed just one hit and one walk in five innings inside the circle. Vogel (14-7) struck out two of the 17 batters she faced for the complete-game shutout.

The Lady Flames will step back out of conference play on Tuesday with a trip to Greeneville, Tennessee to battle Tusculum University. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m. EDT.
