Montevallo Outlasts Lady Flames, 8-7 in 10 Innings

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – It was an extra-inning slugfest between two evenly matched Gulf South Conference rivals on Friday afternoon. When the dust settled, Montevallo rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 10th to claim an, 8-7 victory in game one of the weekend series.

Hannah Carey delivered the game-winning hit with a run scoring single to right center to score Alisha Lanyon. The Lady Flames took a 7-6 advantage in the top of the 10th as Lexi Scalzo scored off a Falcon error.

Bre Patton saw her average climb to a sizzling .400 on the year as she went 3 for 5 with a double, RBI and run scored. Shelby Cole launched her first home run of the season in the fourth inning.

Nyah Vogel started and worked two innings in the circle for the Lady Flames. She allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits. Madison Barnett (9-10) came on and went the rest of the way. She tossed 7.1 innings and allowed six runs on 12 hits.

Mychael McMillan started for the Falcons and allowed six runs on four hits in 4.1 innings. She struck out five but surrendered six free passes. Mabry Norris (6-4) earned the win as she was stellar over 5.2 innings of relief allowing one unearned run on six hits.

Sierra Easterwood had a big day at the plate for Montevallo. She went a perfect 3 for 3 with three RBI including a two-run homer to left center in the bottom of the first. Taylor Robinson launched a solo shot in the bottom fifth and was 2 for 4.

The Lady Flames fall to 24-19 and 13-10 in the GSC after dropping their second straight extra inning battle. The Falcons improve to 23-17 and 14-10 in league play. The two teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
