No. 5 Flames Place Second, Defeat 10 Ranked Teams at Star-Studded Argonaut Invitational

Beck Burnette had the putter working as he finished second at the Argonaut Invitational this week.
PENSACOLA, Florida - In a tournament field that resembled a National Championship, the No. 5 Lee men's golf team finished second at the Argonaut Invitational on Tuesday from the Pensacola Country Club.

The Flames shot an 861, including the low round in the round one of 277, and finished four shots back of the tournament winners, No. 4 Arkansas Tech (857). Beck Burnette placed third as he shot a sizzling 67, 72, 70, 209 and was four shots back of medalist champion, Francois Jacobs (68, 65, 72, 205) of Arkansas Tech.

No. 8 Oklahoma Christian and No. 11 Limestone tied for third at 862. No. 9 Georgia Southwestern followed right behind in fifth with an 863. No. 12 West Florida (865), No. 2 Lincoln Memorial (877), Clayton State (879), Delta State (884) and No. 19 Henderson State (887) rounded out the top 10 in the loaded the field.

Connor Pollman gave the Flames two top five finishers as he posted the second-lowest round of the event with an opening round 66. He would go on to shoot, 73, 72 for a 211 total. Dustin DeMersseman was tied for 20th with a 219 (71, 73, 75). Oliver Lewis-Perkins followed with a 73, 72, 77, 222 to finish tied for 37th. Dalton Chuba (79, 73, 78, 230) and Harrison Smith (76, 74, 82, 232) rounded out the Lee scoring.

The Argonaut Invitational was the only tournament this week with five top 10 and 11 top 25 teams competing, including 3 of the 4 semifinalists from the 2021 NCAA Championships. The 93 player field featured 47 listed among the Golfstat Top 150 (50.5%)

The Flames are playing some of the best golf in program history and will look to carry that momentum into the Gulf South Conference Championship on April 15-16 in Mobile, Ala. Coach Maupin's fellas are looking to capture the program's first conference title after finishing second three previous times in five official appearances.
