Flames Second At Gulf South Conference Track & Field Championships

Noble Named Most Outstanding Track Performer

Caleb Long finished first in the Decathlon and second in the Javelin Throw.
RESULTS

CLINTON, Mississippi – The Lee University men's track & field team collected seven event wins and finished second at the 2022 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at the Mississippi College Track Complex this past Thursday through Saturday.

The Flames added three second-place finishes to amass 207 points. Alabama Huntsville claimed the championship with 242 points. Mississippi College was third at 130 points.

Christian Noble grabbed two individual event wins and added a second-place finish on his way to being named the Most Outstanding Track Performer.

Noble won the 1500-Meter Run with a GSC Championship Record of 3:46.69. Titus Lagat placed eighth (3:54.72), while Will Stone recorded a time of 3:56.27 (11th) and Hayden Judge was 12th (3:57.26).

Noble added another event championship in the 5000-Meter Run. He completed the race at 14:58.36 to lead four Flames into the top five. Carson Bix (15:01.13) was third, Stone placed fourth (15:02.15) and Aaron Himes finished fifth (15:06.17). Caleb Eagleson crossed the line at 15:11.98 for 10th.

Lagat and Noble were the top two finishers in the 800-Meter Run. Lagat crossed the finish line at 1:51.28 with Noble right behind at 1:51.33. Jacob Hatcher (1:54.65) added a team point with an eighth-place finish. Judge was 14th (1:57.68) with Stone right behind in 15th (1:58.42).

The Flames took up five of the top six positions in the 10000-Meter Run. Bix was first overall with a time of 30:40.48. Eagleson's time of 30:42.68 was good for third. Adan Rodriguez placed fourth (30:45.72), Silas Eckenroad finished fifth (30:49.31) and Casey Guthery was sixth (30:52.18).

Caleb Long recorded a Lee Record 6679 points to win the Decathlon. Daniel Surman was fourth with 5716 points, while Stacen Cunningham finished seventh with 5323 points.

Wynand Du Toit finished 0.41 seconds ahead of the field to win the 400-Meter Dash. He stopped the clock at 47.34 seconds. Masengu placed sixth (48.41) and Jeremiah McCain was 15th (50.96).

McCain and Cunningham were the top two finishers in the 400-Meter Hurdles with McCain taking the title with a time of 53.09. Cunningham crossed the finish line at 54.17 and Du Toit was ninth (1:02.44).

McCain was fourth (14.91) in the 110-Meter Hurdles with Cunningham (15.61) in seventh and Long (15.70) in eighth. In the event preliminaries, McCain (14.74) was third, Cunningham (15.18) sixth and Long placed seventh (15.76).

Silusapho Dingiswayo (11.26) and Ian Thomas (12.38) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 100-Meter Dash. Dingiswayo posted the third-fastest preliminary time of 10.83, while Thomas was fifth at 10.94.

McCain placed fifth (22.86) in the 200-Meter Dash after posting a time of 21.62 in the preliminary round. Thomas was fourth (21.67) in the prelims where Du Toit was ninth (21.82), Nokia Masengu finished 14th (22.08) and Dingiswayo was 22nd (26.24).

Four Lee runners competed in the 3000-Meter Steeplechase. Evan Moore recorded a time of 9:21.81 to finish fifth and Thomas Kelton finished sixth at 9:32.64. Caleb Guthery was ninth (9:55.03) and Ezekiel Harless crossed at 10:10.70 for 13th.

The 4x100-Meter Relay of Cunningham, Masengu, McCain and Du Toit finished fourth with a collective time of 41.08 seconds. Kelton, Casey Guthery, Eagleson and Noble combined for a fifth-place time of 3:35.15 in the 4x400-Meter Relay.

Cameron Stine was Lee's top finisher in the High Jump. He cleared 1.97 meters for fourth place. Gift Nkosi was sixth with a jump of 1.89 meters and Long cleared 1.79 meters for ninth. Nkosi's mark of 6.89 meters put him in fifth in the Long Jump. He covered 13.87 meters for third place in the Triple Jump.

Surman and Eli Brooks were third and fourth in the Pole Vault after clearing 4.71 meters. Long was ninth at 3.91 meters and Randall Kramer made it over 3.76 meters for 11th.

Camden Williams and Matthew Black took on the throwing events. Williams placed ninth with a throw of 13.47 meters in the Shot Put. Black was 13th with a measurement of 11.64 meters in the Shot Put and finished eighth in the Discus Throw with a spot of 39.87 meters. In the Hammer Throw, Black was fifth with a throw of 46.36 meters and Williams was 10th with a mark of 38.81 meters.

Long threw the javelin 58.50 meters for second in the Javelin Throw. Brooks was sixth at 50.53 meters. Williams stuck the javelin at 44.66 meters for 11th and Stine was 15th with a throw of 41.78 meters.

Student-athletes who finished first and second in their events were named First and Second Team All-GSC. As a result, Noble earned two First Team and one Second Team honors. Long gathered a First Team and a Second Team selection. The others earning recognition as First Team All-GSC were Bix, Du Toit, Lagat and McCain. Cunningham grabbed Second Team All-GSC to round out the individual honors.

Up next for Lee will be the Lee University Last Chance meet this Saturday at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
