HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lee University softball team dropped the third and final game of the series with the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on Sunday afternoon. UAH scored eight runs in the first inning and didn't look back on the way to a 12-4 win. The Lady Flames got swept in a three-game series for the first time this season and fall to 3-9 on the season.
In the top of the first, Alexa Scalzo and Javaria Smith each got hits but the Lady Flames could not capitalize. The Chargers got on the board in the bottom of the first. A single from Lawren Hays led the game off. Kinley Adams was walked and then Heather Phillips hit a three-run home run to take the 3-0 lead. UAH continued to get runners on base and Lila Young brought in two more runners with a double. Hays had an RBI and Adams had two and the Chargers led 8-0 after the first inning.
Rylie Goodridge was walked for Lee in the second inning but was left on base. UAH added another run when Sadie Thompson brought in Jada Henderson on a sacrifice fly.
The Lady Flames got on the board in the top of the fourth. Smith led it off with a single and then got to second base on a wild pitch. Kylie Bohl then followed up with a single. The very next batter was Goodridge and she hit a single to score Smith. Alesandra Razo followed that up with a single. Shelby Cole reached safely after an error by UAH which also allowed Bohl to score. Laney Harris then singled to score Goodridge. Scalzo was hit by a pitch and that score Razo for the fourth and final run of the inning.
UAH added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth off of RBI from Heather Phillips and Alexa Douthitt to make it 11-4. Then in the sixth inning, Kaylee Vaught hit a solo home run to end the game for the Chargers.
Smith and Sidney Lee each had two hits to lead the Lady Flames. Lee once again left seven runners on base in the game.
The Lady Flames will return home next weekend and host the University of West Georgia for a three game series. It is slated to start on Saturday, February 25 with a double header beginning at 1 PM.
