Game Recap: Baseball |

Nedrow Fires No-Hitter, Flames, Wolves Split Pair

CLEVELAND, Tenn.-Jack Nedrow fired seven innings of no-hit ball and Riley Black delivered a two-run double as Lee battled back in the second game of a doubleheader to win 2-1 and earn the doubleheader split with West Georgia on a cool, windy and rainy afternoon at Larry Carpenter Stadium.

Nedrow allowed an earned run, walked two and struck out nine in improving his record to 2-0 on the year. The Flames scored the two winning runs in the third inning when Brandon Daniels walked and took second on a wild pitch. Cam Suto was issued a free pass, and both scored when Black drilled a double off the base of the left-field wall to give Nedrow all the runs he needed. "Nedrow willed us to the win with a magical performance and Black had the big swing for us," noted Lee coach Mark Brew after the win.

The Flames only had three hits in the win. Dylan Standifer and Isaac Quinones posted Lee's only other base knocks. Chase Townsend and Ryan Whitener pitched well enough win in most games for the Wolves. Townsend gave up only two hits and two earned runs. In three innings, Whitener only allowed one hit. Townsend was charged with the loss.

The Wolves came from behind by sending nine men to the plate and scoring four runs in the seventh inning to win the opener. Anthony Calabro was a one-man wrecking crew. He drilled a pair of two-run homers, plated another run with a double and scored four times in the West Georgia win.

Cooper Prince had a double, a single and two RBI in the win while Jared Emory added a double and Logan Fink had a hit, RBI and scored a run. West Georgia used four pitchers. Jonathan Pittman worked three innings in relief and allowed just one hit, but it was Peyton Berry who came on for the final three innings and slammed the door on the Flames. "It was tough conditions for both teams today, but I was proud of how our team rallied in the second game after the tough late inning loss in game one. It's probably going to be another tough weather day on Saturday, and we've got to find a way to swing the bats a little better and execute the entire game," pointed out Coach Brew. The Flames are 2-2 in GSC play and 6-7 overall. West Georgia improves to 8-2, 3-1. The two clubs are scheduled to play again on Saturday with the opening pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
