Lacrosse Drops First Game To Defending National Champions

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University women's lacrosse team fell to the defending national champion, the University of Indianapolis, 13-3, from the Ray Conn Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Brittney White led the Lady Flames with two goals while Hannah Vecsey pitched in with one. Maggie Luzier had an assist while White and Callie Curtis led the team with a pair of draw controls each. Hannah Nee had three ground balls and Megan Trout paced the team with two caused turnovers.

UIndy (4-0) got the scoring started just over a minute in as Joey Fowler found the back of the net from a Megan Dunn assist and tacked on one more as Quinn Malcom put one in with 9:15 to go.

White took advantage of an extra-man opportunity with 3:35 left in the opening period to cut the lead in half off the Luzier assist but the Greyhounds added one more in the quarter to take the, 3-1, edge into the second.

The guests then outscored Lee, 10-2, over the following three periods,, including a, 7-0, run from the first quarter through the third to put the game on ice.

White added a goal with 3:13 left in the third to end the stretch and Vecsey added her third goal of the year with 10:19 remaining in the game, but the Lady Flames could not get any closer as UIndy tacked on two more to make the final, 13-3.

Olivia Bladon paced the Greyhounds with four goals while Malcom and Fowler added three apiece. Malcolm pitched in with four assists and Mekayala Montgomery led all players with five draw controls while Audrey Moran pitched in with five ground balls.

Lee falls to 4-1 on the season while UIndy improves to 4-0.

The Lady Flames will be back in action next Saturday, March 4, as they take on Florida Southern College at the Ray Conn Sports Complex beginning at 2 p.m.
