LIVINGSTON, Ala. -The Lee University softball team dropped both games of the double header on Saturday afternoon to the University of West Alabama. They dropped a one run game 9-8 in game one and then were no-hit in game two as UWA won 15-0. Lee has now lost ten straight game and have fallen to 6-19 overall and 3-8 in GSC play. The Lady Flames have lost five one run games this season.
GAME 1
The Lady Flames got on the board in the top of the first inning. Alexa Scalzo was walked and then stole second base. Sidney Lee followed that up with a double to right center field to give Lee the 1-0 lead. The Tigers struck right back in the bottom half of the inning. Taylor Clegg singled and then stole second base. LP Trammell then brought her home with a single to tie the game.
Lee retook the lead in the top of the second inning on a two out rally. After Kylie Bohl and Rylie Goodridge were retired, Annalyn Ormsby was walked. That was followed by Alesandra Razo being walked. Ana Macha then reached base safely after an error by UWA and loaded the bases. Scalzo then single to right field which allowed Ormsby and Razo to score and give the Lady Flames a 3-1 lead. Javaria Smith was walked to load the bases again, but Lee flew out to center field to end the inning.
Laney Harris singled to right field to start the third inning, but Bohl grounded into a double play to end the threat. UWA also had a single in the bottom of the third but left the base runner stranded. In the top of the fourth, Razo led it off with a double. Macha had a sacrifice bunt to move Razo over to third. Scalzo then doubled to score Razo and make it a 4-1 lead for Lee. UWA hit two solo home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning from Hannah Myard and Riley Sullivan.
Two more Lady Flames base runner scored in the top of the fifth. Bohl reached on an error then Razo was walked. Macha single and Bohl scored on an error by the first basemen. The very next pitch was a wild one and Razo scored to make it 6-3. UWA hit two home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game. Trammell hit a solo home run to lead off the inning. Sullivan then hit a second home run of the game as her two-run blast tied the game at 6-6.
UWA walked it off in the bottom of the seventh as Ann Marie Stanbridge hit a single, stole second, and then scored as Trammell hit a double to win the game.
In game one, Scalzo was 3-for-3 from the plate with three runs batted in and a run scored. Lee had the other RBI for the Lady Flames. Trammel was 3-for-4 from the plate with three RBI and Sullivan added three RBI as well.
GAME 2
Kelsie Gilliam tripled to center field to start the game for UWA in the bottom of the first. That was immediately followed with a two-run home run for Clegg. After one out, Trammel reached on an error. Lee got a strikeout but then Emily Cowart doubled to score Trammell. Sullivan then hit a two run home run and made the lead 5-0 after the first inning.
In the bottom of the second, Clegg doubled to score Gilliam to earn her third RBI of game two. Trammel then hit a home run to make it 8-0. Kori Young then hit a double to score Sullivan and Cowart to make it 10-0 after the second inning.
UWA scored five more runs in the bottom of the third. Clegg hit another two run home run scoring Gilliam in the process. Sullivan single to score two more runs and then Young drove in the final run of the game.
The Lady Flames did not have a hit or a base runner as Madison Wright threw a five-inning perfect game in game two. Clegg had five RBI in game two while Sullivan had four runs.
Lee will return to action in Livingston, Ala. and take on West Alabama on Sunday, March 19 with first pitch set for 1 PM.
