Lady Flames Fall in Series Finale to UWA

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -The Lee University softball team dropped the third and final game of the Gulf South Conference series to the University of West Alabama 12-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Flames scored the first run in the top of the first but never led after that point. With the loss the Lady Flames fall to 6-20 on the season and 3-9 in GSC play. Lee has now lost 11 games in a row. 
 
Ana Macha led the game off with a walk. After a Javaria Smith fly out and a Alexa Scalzo single, Sidney Lee hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Macha and give the Lady Flames a 1-0 lead. UWA struck right back in the bottom of the first. Kelsie Gilliam was walked and then Ann Marie Stanbridge hit a two-run home run to give UWA the lead. LP Trammell followed that up with a double. She was brought home with a single from Emily Cowart. Kori Young reached on an error and that allowed Cowart and Riley Sullivan to score giving UWA a 5-1 lead.
 
Kylie Bohl reached base safely with a single in the top of the second but was left on base. In the bottom of the second, Gilliam had a single and then Taylor Clegg hit a two-run home run to extend the lead. UWA added one more run in the inning when Stanbridge scored on ground ball.
 
Lee struck back in the top of the third. Macha hit an infield single and that was followed by Alexa Scalzo hitting a two-run home run which was her first home run of the season. The very next batter, Sidney Lee hit a solo home run which was her team leading fifth home run of the season. In the bottom of the fourth, Stanbridge hit her second home run of the game to make it a 9-4 UWA lead. Three batters later in the fourth, Cowart hit a two-run home run to make it 11-4. UWA added a fourth run in the bottom of the fourth to lead 12-4. The Lady Flames failed to score in the fifth inning and the game ended early.
 
Standridge and Cowart each had three RBI on the day. Scalzo and Lee each had two RBI for the Lady Flames. UWA hit 12 home runs against Lee in the three-game series.
 
Lee will return to action on Wednesday, March 22 in Dahlonega, Ga. The Lady Flames will play a double header against the University of North Georgia beginning at 1 PM.
