Lady Flames Blowout Union To Win Series

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – For just the second time this season, the Lee University Lady Flames softball team won a Gulf South Conference series. They handily defeated Union University 9-1 in five innings on Sunday afternoon to take the series two games to one. The only other weekend series the Lady Flames have won was over the University of West Georgia. With the win, Lee improved their record to 12-31 overall and 7-17 in GSC play.

The Union Lady Bulldogs struck first in the game with a solo home run from Idalia Alarcon in the top of the first. But after that point, starting pitcher Natalie Pruitt was dialed in in the circle. Lee stuck right back to take the lead back in the bottom of the first. Annalyn Ormsby and Alexa Scalzo were both walked and then Sideny Lee brought them home with a team leading ninth home run of the season. The very next batter was Javaria Smith and she also hit one out of the park to give the Lady Flames a 4-1 lead after the first inning.

After a short rain delay, Lee picked right back where they left off. Kylie Bohl led the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run from Kylie Bohl to make it 5-1. The next runs came from two doubles. One from Scalzo and another from Lee in the bottom of the fourth to give Lee a 7-1 lead.

The Lady Flames ended the game early in the bottom of the fifth when Laney Harris scored on a wild pitch, and then Bohl drove in Rylie Goodridge to end the game.

Sidney Lee led the team from the plate. She was three-for-three from the plate, had four runs batted in, and one run scored. Bohl added two RBI, and Scalzo two runs scored. Natalie Pruitt earned her second straight win over Union giving up just one run on one hit while striking out three. In 12 innings pitched against Union this weekend, Pruitt only allowed one run.

Next weekend the Lady Flames will head to Memphis, Tenn. for a three game series with Christian Brothers University. The first game will be on Saturday, April 22 at 1 PM.
