Bearcats Take Down Lady Flames, 15-10

Greenwood, S.C. - The Lee women's lacrosse team faced a similar predicament on Sunday afternoon as a slow start led to a 15-10 defeat at the hands of Lander.

Slow starts have plagued the Lady Flames of late and Sunday was no different. Lee trailed 7-3 after one and couldn't overcome the early deficit. With the loss Lee moves to 5-8 and 0-2 in the GSC while Lander improves 8-5 and 3-1 in league action.

Brittney White led the Lady Flames with four goals while Megan Trout and Hannah Vecsey added two scores each. Noelle Harrington posted four ground balls.

"We are a good lacrosse team that never quits, but we also can't overcome our late starts.  We are just losing by a few goals but that isn't very comforting at the moment," said head coach Derrel Martin. We usually manage to dominate draw controls but today there were some disputed mechanics which we weren't able to overcome and so we fell behind in that metric.  We actually led the game in turnovers and ground balls; we were efficient in our clears.  Usually, a day like that leads to a win but not today.  Our free position shooting continues to be subpar and that could be the difference in any game. We still have controllable issues to work on in both attack and defense and we will use the next 10 days to figure ourselves out."

Lee struggled in the draw control, an area where it typically has an advantage on the opposition, as Lander held a commanding 22-7 edge. Both teams recorded 29 shots.

Alyssa Suchan led the Bearcats with six goals and Emily Peterson added five.

The Lady Flames will take a week off before looking to get back on track on Wednesday, April 12 as they travel to Young Harris.
