Flames Claim Two Provisional Marks at UAB Blazer Invite

Eli Brooks surpassed the NCAA DII Provisional for the pole vault on Saturday.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lee University men's track & field team competed in its second indoor meet of the season on Saturday at the UAB Blazer Invite and exited with two NCAA DII Provisional marks. The event was held at the CrossPlex.

Hitting provisional marks were Eli Brooks and Cale Kassen. Brooks finished third and surpassed the standard of 4.76 meters with a clearance of 4.95 meters in the pole vault. Kassen posted a fourth-place time of 8.04 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries. The time to meet was 8.20 seconds.

Caleb Long finished 15th in the pole vault with a height of 4.00 meters. Cameron Stine was 14th (8.79) in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary round and fourth (8.66) in the third round. Isaac Iosia placed 19th (9.39) in the third round.

Doniven Jackson finished seventh in the 60-meter dash final with a time of 6.92 seconds. He was eighth (6.89) in the preliminaries and eighth (7.00) in the third round. Also, in the third round of the event, Long placed 43rd with a time of 7.53.

Aiden Shaw and Niquaine Henry joined Jackson in the 200-meter dash. Shaw placed fifth after crossing the finish line at 21.95 seconds. Henry (22.40) and Jackson (22.40) were 12th and 13th, respectively. Ian Newman (50.27) was third and Eli Cobble (50.62) placed fifth in the 400-meter run.

Shaw, Newman, Cobble and Luke Blanchard combined to post a time of 3:23.81 to finish seventh in the 4x400-meter relay.

Five Flames finished in the top 14 of the 800-meter run. Caleb Guthery stopped the clock at 1:59.00 for sixth. Jon Fielding Stogner placed ninth (2:00.15), Kenneth Bishop was 10th (2:00.22) and Tal Old completed a stretch of three-straight Lee finishers at 11th (2:00.28). Stephen Clark finished the race in 2:00.91 for 14th.

Those same five also competed in the mile. Clark was first (4:13.47) with Guthery right behind in second (4:14.14). Stogner placed fifth (4:23.22), Bishop was sixth (4:25.67) and Old finished 11th (4:29.28).

Kassen cleared 2.01 meters to finish fifth in the high jump. Myles Mann was 25th in the long jump with a recorded distance of 6.25 meters. Timothy Doolittle was 28th with a jump of 6.05 meters. In the triple jump, Mann covered 12.05 meters for 14th and Doolittle was 16th after covering 11.59 meters.

Camden Williams, Ian Trill and Brody Morgan competed in the shot put. Williams finished eighth with a mark of 14.33 meters. Trill's mark of 12.09 meters put him in 24th, while Morgan placed 33rd with a throw of 10.82 meters.

Matthew Black was second with a weight throw of 16.78 meters. Braxton Philpott was 10th with a mark of 14.78 meters and Trill finished 27th with a throw of 12.01 meters.

The Flames will return to action this weekend at the Vanderbilt Invitational. The two-day event will be held at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility on Friday and Saturday (January 19-20).
