CLEVELAND, Tenn.-It's been since 1941 and Ted Williams that a Major League Baseball player hit .400 in a single season. After a 3 for 3 day at the plate in a 13-3 Lee University win over Cedarville University on Saturday afternoon at Larry Carpenter Stadium, Brandon Daniels is currently making his own run at the .400 club hitting a sizzling .405 for the season.
Daniels led a Flames offense that pounded out 11 hits, two doubles and a homer. Daniels reached base safely in all five at bats with a double, two walks, two runs scored and three RBI. Brantley Cutler went 3 for 3 with a double, a walk and an RBI while catcher Brock Sisson drilled a two-run blast to highlight a five-run first inning for Lee.
Jack Nedrow started a gave up no runs on two hits in just one inning of work. After a 45-minute rain delay following the first inning, Coach Brew decided to pull Nedrow. Colt McKibben (2-0) came on to earn the victory, tossing four innings and surrendering just one run on four hits. He struck out three and walked one.
The Flames put the shortened seven-inning run-rule game away with a six-run fourth to go up 11-1. Cam Suto ended the contest with a run-scoring single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh.
Grayson Wright (0-1) suffered the loss as he labored through 2/3 innings giving up five runs on three hits. Jordon Geiger was the most effective Cedarville hurler tossing 2.1 shutout innings.
The Flames improve to 13-7 on the year while the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-10. The weekend is the annual Parents' Weekend event for the club. The Flames honored their seniors at a special banquet following the contest.
Lee will wrap up the non-conference weekend series with Cedarville tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
