Flames Collect Four Provisional Times in Fast Break Athletics Invitational Win

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University Men's Track & Field team accumulated 198 points to finish first out of 28 teams at the Lee Fast Break Athletics Invitational this weekend at the Ray Conn Sports Complex. The Flames collected four NCAA Division II Provisional times to go along with six event wins.

Titus Lagat and Roberto Fajardo met the standard of 1:51.23 in the 800-meter Run. Lagat was the event winner with a time of 1:49.82 and Fajardo (1:50.30) was third. Lagat's time is No. 2 among NCAA DII athletes and Fajardo's sits at No. 7. Jacob Hatcher placed sixth (1:53.12) and Owen Pearce (1:57.11) was 27th.

Fajardo completed the Mile with a second-place time of 4:05.27. His time when converted to the 1500-meter distance is 3:47.10, meets the provisional mark of 3:48.91 and puts him at No. 9 among DII competition. Hatcher completed the race in 4:12.57 for seventh and Ryan Lovelace was ninth (4:13.64).

Cale Kassen collected Lee's fourth provisional with his performance in the 110-meter Hurdles. His event-winning time of 13.53 seconds also beat the provisional time to beat of 14.44 and places him second in the nation. Isaac Iosia stopped the clock at 15.53 for seventh. Kassen added another event win with a clearance of 2.00 meters in the High Jump.

Doniven Jackson finished first in the 100-meter Dash with a time of 10.52 seconds. Eli Brooks (11.47) and Timothy Doolittle (11.67) were 27th and 29th, respectively. Jackson was also the first of six Lee runners to finish in the 200-meter Dash. He was second overall at 21.46 seconds with Justin Steele right behind in second (21.60). Nokia Masengu (21.77) finished sixth, Aiden Shaw (21.89) was eighth, Ian Newman placed 15th (22.28) and Eli Cobble (22.45) crossed in 17th.

Niquaine Henry was the winner of the 400-meter Hurdles with a time of 54.18 seconds. Iosia was 18th (1:02.04).

Camden Williams posted a mark of 15.31 meters to win the Shot Put. Ian Trill was 10th with a throw of 13.06 meters and Kassen finished 17th with a toss of 11.60 meters.

Williams was second in the Discus with a throw of 45.71 meters. Braxton Philpott was fourth with a measurement of 43.38 meters. Trill placed 15th with a mark of 35.97 meters and Kassen's spot of 30.91 meters put him in 24th.

Masengu (47.79), Shaw (48.74) and Niquaine Henry (48.95) placed second through fourth in the 400-meter Dash. Newman's time of 49.29 seconds was good for seventh.

Luke Blanchard joined Steele, Shaw and Jackson in the 4x100-meter Relay. The foursome combined for a second-place finish of 41.37 seconds. Newman, Masengu, Lagat and Iosia teamed up to place fourth (3:21.80) in the 4x400-meter Relay.

Matthew Fowler led four other Flames to the finish line of the 5000-meter Run. Fowler was second overall at 14:29.47. Jon Fielding Stogner (14:32.93) was fifth and Luke Gaddis (14:33.87) placed sixth. Caleb Guthery finished ninth (14:38.54), while Tal Old completed the circuit in 15:29.63 for 51st.

Pearce and Gaddis braved the chilly Saturday morning temperatures to run the 3000-meter Steeplechase. Pearce was third (9:32.99) with Gaddis right behind in fourth (9:33.47).

Eli Brooks was fourth in the Pole Vault with a height of 4.55 meters. Kassen was fifth with a mark of 4.45 meters. In the Long Jump, Myles Mann covered 6.13 meters for seventh and Timothy Doolittle was ninth with a leap of 5.84 meters.

Williams, Philpott and Trill were Lee's representatives in the Hammer Throw. Williams finished fourth with a mark of 46.48 meters. Philpott was eighth at 44.46 meters and Trill placed 14th at 36.91 meters.

Brooks was third in the Javelin Throw with a mark of 55.74 meters. Mann was sixth with a throw of 49.36 meters and Philpott was 23rd after a measurement of 33.50 meters.

The Flames are scheduled to return to competition the weekend of April 19-20 at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The meet will be held at George C. Griffin Track in Atlanta.
