RESULTS
CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University Men's Track & Field team had a handful of members compete in the Lee Last Chance meet on Saturday on the penultimate day to reach the NCAA Division II Provisional qualifying mark or improve their previous marks. Eight provisional marks were recorded with five of those being either new or improved.
The highlight of the day was the 4x400-meter Relay team of Nokia Masengu, Aiden Shaw, Doniven Jackson and Justin Steele not just setting a Lee Last Chance Record with a time of 3:07.66 but also meeting the provisional qualifying time of 3:13.85. The foursome's time is the third-best recorded among DII competitors this year.
The same four athletes also met the provisional standard (40.91) in the 4x100-meter Relay. They combined for a fourth-place time of 40.65 seconds.
Owen Pearce finished second in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. His time of 9:02.44 is the 30
th-best time reported this season. Luke Gaddis joined him in the race and placed ninth (9:16.21).
Jacob Hatcher completed the 1500-meter Run in 3:45.84 to place eighth and qualify at No. 31. Caleb Guthery was 14
th (3:50.90) and Ryan Lovelace finished 31
st (3:58.79).
Jon Fielding Stogner was the final Flame to record a new provisional mark when he crossed the finish line of the 5000-meter Run at 14:15.10. He placed fifth in the race and his time is ranked No. 52.
Roberto Fajardo placed fourth in the 800-meter Run with a qualifying time of 1:49.62, but he did not improve upon his mark of 1:49.35 set at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Cale Kassen won the 110-meter Hurdles with a Lee Last Chance Record of 13.83 seconds. His time was 0.30 seconds slower than his posted time of 13.53 at the Lee Flames Fast Break Athletics Invitational.
Camden Williams' fourth place throw of 51.53 meters in the Discus Throw met the provisional mark, although it fell 0.23 meters shy of his mark at the Kennesaw State Invitational. Braxton Philpott finished seventh with a throw of 45.81 meters and Ian Trill's mark of 35.61 meters put him in 15
th.
Williams and Trill also competed in the Shot Put. Williams finished third with a mark of 15.93 meters and Trill was eighth with a throw of 14.16 meters.
Jackson and Luke Blanchard were the Lee representatives in the 100-meter Dash. Jackson was 14
th (10.78) in the preliminary and fourth (10.77) in the final, while Blanchard was 24
th (11.06) in the preliminary and 13
th (10.94) in the final. Ian Newman finished 17
th with a time of 21.69 seconds in the 200-meter Dash.
Five Flames were part of the 400-meter Dash field. Shaw stopped the clock at 47.89 for seventh place. Masengu placed ninth (48.05) with Newman right behind in 10
th (48.09). Eli Cobble finished 26
th (49.33) and Niquaine Henry was 29
th (49.67).
Timothy Doolittle was 20
th in both the Pole Vault and the Long Jump. He cleared 5.96 meters in the Pole Vault and covered 5.96 meters in the Long Jump. Caleb Long posted a measurement of 47.68 meters to place 13
th in the Javelin Throw.
The field for the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be announced on Tuesday evening. The Championships will be held May 23-25 at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas, and will be hosted by Emporia State University.
