Lady Flames In First Following Opening Day of GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Danielle Horter was the winner of the 10000-meter Run Thursday evening at the 2024 GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
RESULTS

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Lee University Women's Track & Field Team sits in first place following the first day of competition at the 2024 GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day event is being held at the University of Montevallo Track & Field Stadium.

With three of the 21 events completed, the Lady Flames have accumulated 38 points and lead Mississippi College by 12 points. Alabama Huntsville is in third place with 17 points.

McKenna Cavanaugh completed the 3000-meter Steeplechase in a GSC Championships Record of 10:23.05 to hand Lee its first of two championship performances for the day. Ashlynn Iliff finished second (10:42.92) and Julia Halterman was fourth (11:37.11).

Danielle Horter posted a time of 36:34.10 to win the 10000-meter Run. Paige Patterson placed fifth at 38:18.38 and Katie Krueger was eighth (38:57.92). Phoebe Moran just missed scoring team points with a ninth-place finish (39:21.34).

Samara Brinks and Olivia Davidson were Lee's representatives in the Hammer Throw. Brinks finished 14th with a mark of 38.99 meters and Davidson was 19th with a throw of 30.64 meters.

Three Lady Flames competed in the preliminary round of the 200-meter Dash. Janay Ryan was Lee's top finisher at 25.56 seconds (11th). Delphine Dah (26.71) was 18th and Jakara Tobler (26.90) finished 19th. The final qualifier for the final was Janae Hilliard of Alabama Huntsville with a time of 25.31.

Liezl Theron and Sydney White hold the top two positions in the Heptathlon. With four of the seven events completed, Theron has accumulated 2,962 points and White has 2,645 points. Lily Brown's 2,075 points put her in fifth.

The Heptathlon is scheduled to be completed on Friday with the Long Jump, Javelin Throw and 800-meter Run. Other event finals to be held on Friday are the 5000-meter Run, High Jump, Long Jump and Discus Throw.
