Flames Repeat as GSC Outdoor Track & Field Champions

MONTEVALLO, Ala.
– The Lee University Men's Track & Field Team claimed its second straight and fourth overall GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Saturday afternoon after collecting 241 points over the three days of competition at the University of Montevallo Track & Field Stadium. Alabama Huntsville finished second with 203 points and Mississippi College (151) was third.

In addition to the team championship, Cale Kassen received a pair of individual honors. He was selected as the Most Outstanding Field Performer and the Most Outstanding Overall Performer.

Eli Brooks began the final day with a first-place performance of 4.50 meters in the Pole Vault. Kassen was fourth at 4.40 meters and Caleb Long finished ninth with a vault of 3.65 meters.

Camden Williams added another event championship after posting a mark of 16.06 meters in the Shot Put. Ian Trill's throw of 12.46 meters put him in 14th.

Caleb Long finished third in the Javelin Throw with a mark of 57.08 meters with Brooks in fourth with a throw of 56.70 meters and Kassen in fifth at 55.59 meters. Williams placed eighth with a measurement of 50.77 meters and Myles Mann was 11th with a throw of 43.12 meters.

Luke Blanchard, Justin Steele, Aiden Shaw and Doniven Jackson were the first Lee track athletes to compete on Saturday. The foursome posted a time of 40.57 seconds to finish second in the 4x100-meter Relay.

Roberto Fajardo was the first of five Flames to finish in the top eight of the 1500-meter Run. He was first overall with a time of 3:51.31. Jacob Hatcher placed third (3:53.34) and Owen Pearce finished fifth (3:55.50). Caleb Guthery (3:56.45) was seventh and Ryan Lovelace (3:56.46) grabbed the final scoring position in eighth.

Kassen stopped the clock at 13.98 seconds to win the 110-meter Hurdles. Isaac Iosia finished eighth in 15.80 seconds. Niquaine Henry (53.05) was second in the 400-meter Hurdles and Iosia (1:00.34) was 11th.

Steele and Shaw were Lee's top finishers in the 400-meter Dash. Steele crossed the finish line at 46.36 seconds for second place. Shaw was fifth with a time of 47.67. Nokia Masengu placed seventh (47.82) and Ian Newman was eighth (47.96), while Eli Cobble finished in 17th (50.03).

Four Flames were in the top 10 of the 800-meter Run. Titus Lagat was first overall at 1:51.70. Hatcher (1:53.98) was fifth, Lovelace (1:56.34) placed eighth and Guthery was 10th (1:56.72).

Jackson and Shaw took on the 200-meter Dash with Jackson finishing fifth (21.52) and Shaw placing sixth (21.64).

The 4x400-meter Relay team of Newman, Henry, Cobble and Masengu added the finishing touch to the team championship with a second-place time of 3:11.27.
