Flames Take Over Lead Following Second Day of GSC Outdoor Championships

MONTEVALLO, Ala.
– The Lee University Men's Track & Field Team took over the first place lead on the second day of the 2024 GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held at the University of Montevallo Track & Field Stadium. The Flames added 73 points and turned a nine-point deficit into a 33 point lead.

Eli Brooks, Cameron Stine, Caleb Long and Timothy Doolittle completed the second half of the Decathlon on Friday. Brooks claimed the individual championship with a point total of 6,273. Stine was close behind in second with 6,059 points. Long placed sixth (5,483) and Doolittle just missed the top eight with a ninth-place finish of 5,270 points.

Cale Kassen covered 7.34 meters to win the Long Jump. Myles Mann placed 14th with a mark of 6.42 meters. Kassen added another championship in the High Jump with a clearance of 2.08 meters.

Camden Williams gave Lee its fourth individual title for the day with a measurement of 51.65 meters in the Discus Throw. Braxton Philpott added to the team point total with fourth place throw of 45.63 meters. Brody Morgan finished 12th at 39.63 meters and Ian Trill's throw of 37.43 meters put him in 15th.

The Flames ended the evening placing four runners in the top seven of the 5000-meter Run. Matthew Fowler placed second with a DII Provisional time of 14:27.12. Jon Fielding Stogner was fifth (14:44.75), Ezekiel Harless placed sixth (14:45.78) and Luke Gaddis finished seventh (14:49.32).

Doniven Jackson and Luke Blanchard were Lee's representatives in the 100-meter Dash. Jackson finished third with a time of 10.70 seconds to advance to the event final. Blanchard stopped the clock at 11.07 to finish 15th.

Kassen and Isaac Iosia advanced to Saturday's final of the 110-meter Hurdles. Kassen posted the fastest qualifying time (13.85), while Iosia finished eighth (15.73) to grab the final spot in the final.

Thirteen individual championships will be decided on Saturday. The Flames have team members competing in 12 of the event finals.
