Lady Flames Place Three on Second Team All-GSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Three Lee University volleyball players were named to the Gulf South Conference Second Team on Tuesday afternoon. Esthefany Rabit, Sara Palumbo, and Sophia Lippert all received Second Team All-GSC accolades.

Rabit has been a major force in the middle for Lee. She is second in the GSC in total blocks and has the most solo blocks. She is in the top 12 in the nation for total blocks and top 12 in solo blocks. As a middle blocker she has added 64 digs. She leads Lee in points. On offense she has 189 kills and is hitting over .300 on the year. She has double digit assists and 39 service aces as well.

Lippert has come on strong this year after being injured last year. She leads the Lady Flames in kills with 220 and averages over two kills per set. She is hitting over .260 on the year. She has several assists and an ace as well. She has over 40 blocks and over 50 digs this year.

For the second straight season Palumbo is on the second team and has done everything for Lee this year. She has played 110 sets. She has over 195 kills on the year and has had the most attacks on the team. She is second in the GSC in service aces and is third in aces per set. She is 45th in the country in service aces. She is in double digit in assists as well. She is second on the team in digs with over 230. Palumbo averages over two digs a set. She also has double digit blocks on the year.

Head Coach Christa Fabre is proud of the accomplishment for her three student-athletes. "Proud of our whole team and all that we have accomplished so far this season. We are so well rounded and I honestly believe there could have been much more recognition, even for these three who were awarded 2nd team all conference. Esthefany came in and has been such a difference maker for us at the net both offensively and defensively. Sophia has overcome so much, returning from her knee injury that happened just over a year ago to become our offensive kill leader this year. Sara has played a vital role for us too being the only player who plays 6 rotations outside of Izzy Denton, our full of heart libero. At the end of the day, individual recognition is great but more so because it translates to success for our team as a whole."

The University of West Florida took four of the five individual awards. Gabi Moulton was player and setter of the year. Madalyn Mire was libero of the year and Melissa Wolter was coach of the year. Sudney Durban from the University of Alabama in Huntsville was freshman of the year.

Lee will continue open play in the Gulf South Conference tournament on Friday, November 21 against either the University of Montevallo or Mississippi College.
