CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Coach Christa Fabre Lee University team has worked long and hard to earn a first-round bye in the Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championship. The Lady Flames will travel to Pensacola, Fla. for the event that is hosted by top-seeded University of West Florida. Lee will face 5
th-seeded University of Montevallo on Friday (5 p.m.) in the quarterfinal round. Montevallo swept Mississippi College in the opening and earned the right to challenge the 4
th-seeded Lady Flames.
"Playing Montevallo will be a good first test in tournament play. We have split with them during the regular season, both winning at home," noted Coach Fabre. "We have done a good job of shutting down their primary hitters, so we will work to do the same with aggressive serving and a strong offense as well as disciplined blocking at the net. We must take care of Montevallo, and that match needs to be where our thoughts and focuses are centered. Being on the same side as UWF is something we want too, and our team is ready and hungry for a win against them after playing them so closely this past weekend."
The two teams split a pair of games during the regular season. The Falcons won in four sets at Montevallo on Sept. 27, but the Lady Flames bounced back to win inside Walker Arena on Oct. 24, 3-0. In the other quarterfinal match, the 3
rd-seeded University of Alabama in Huntsville will be pitted against 7
th-seed Christian Brothers University. West Florida and 2
nd-seed Trevecca Nazarene University received by all the way to the tourney semifinals.
A win over Montevallo would put the Lady Flames in a collision with the homestanding Argonauts, while the Huntsville, Christian Brothers winner would go against Trevecca.
