Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Hot-shooting University of Alabama in Huntsville placed all five starters in double-figure scoring in handing the visiting Lee University men's basketball team their second straight defeat, 89-68 on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Flames to 2-2 in GSC play and 5-3 overall while the Chargers improved to 2-2, 7-3.
The Flames return to Walker Arena for a pair of tough GSC contests on Thursday and Saturday. The pre-Christmas schedule finds Lee hosting the University of West Florida on Thursday (7:30) and Valdosta State on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
The Chargers jumped out to a 45-30 lead at halftime and built the margin to as much as 30 points in the second 20 minutes. UAH made 13-of-27 treys (48%) with Jordan Mabe hitting 4-of-6 triple attempts. He finished with 15 points and a double-double, 10 rebounds. Thomas Allard was the Charger leading scorer with 23 points and Quentin Toles was right behind with 21.
Overall, the Chargers shot a red-hot 55% (32-of-58) , and they knocked down 12-of-17 charity tosses. The Flames shot a respectable 44% (27-of-62) overall but made just 8-of-26 triples (31%). They were 6-of-10 in free-throw attempts.
Willie Walton led the Flames in scoring and rebounding. He hit 4-of-7 3-pointers and finished with 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. Tylon Chatman had 14 points and Ben Ritger came off the bench and also scored 14 points.
The clean game saw Lee turn the basketball over 10 times and the Chargers commit eight floor mistakes. The rebounding was close with UAH winning the battle of the boards 35-32. The story was the same in points in the paint. The Chargers tallied 36 and Lee 34.
